Far too many small businesses have been seduced into having a website produced for them – sometimes for extortionate sums of money – only to find little or no benefit.

Why should this be?  The simple answer is that all too often sites are designed by people who, whilst they may be talented artistically, don’t have the specialist knowledge or tools to ensure that your website is visible in the search engines.  Even worse, they may have inadvertently used some technique that search engines (such as Google) disapprove of.  It’s an unfortunate fact that it’s all too easy for your site to disappear from one or more of the search engines as a result of what is known in Internet marketing circles as “black hat tactics”.

Sadly, even “white hat” web sites using perfectly “legal” promotion methods can fall foul of search engine algorithms; sites built with Flash are an example.  You know the things – very impressive and pretty moving graphics that take forever to load!  Most people click away before they get to the actual meat of the site.

Another common problem is that sites are often built to impress rather than function.  This is usually referred to as style over substance.  We avoid those pitfalls.  This is why we don’t build Flash sites with all the gizmos that the search engines hate.
